Biography

Will Kohler

Will Kohler’s passion for design and metal sculpture, and his commitment to authentic 16th century blacksmithing, took him to Germany.  There, he trained with Alfred Schmidt, the renowned icon master metalsmith.  Following his apprenticeship, Will returned to Boulder, Colorado, and founded W X Kohler Design, in 1993.

Will combined his knowledge of European hand-forged ironwork with his creativity and expertise in contemporary materials. He created exquisite railings, gates, grills and metalwork for hundreds of Colorado and California homes, building his company  and reputation upon his product originality and integrity. In time, he found his true passion was sculptural lighting; sconces, chandeliers and lanterns of hand-forged metal and stone.

In 1998, Will was commissioned to create ironwork by Colorado-based Windward Builders, for their projects. When Windward’s founder, Marcia Kirsh, discovered Will’s exceptional lighting designs and passion for unique art lighting, she began incorporating it extensively into her award-winning homes and estates.

Later, Marcia and Will married, and combined the elegance, high quality materials and unparalleled workmanship of W X Kohler Design, with their signature styles and Marcia’s design knowledge and expertise within the luxury home market. Together, they launched Grace and Graham Lighting in 2002, for Will’s passion for fine art lighting, and named it for their best work; their children, Grace and Graham.
